It blows my mind that this album came out 7 years ago. I'm not sure if it's a function of Radio playlists or not, but Electric Groove has the most plays out of any other song on this album.

I queue'd it up and it's one of those tracks where I automatically start dancing at my desk (standing desks are great). The whole album is great. It really does a great job defining some of the stereotypes - 80s super sport car engines, a track that I refer to as 'driving beats' (a groove I could easily drive across the sunset blasting), and that sweet synth instrumentation. I rarely skip a track off this album, so I'd say it's held up firmly as one of the greats. So, where do I even start. Back in the day listening to Redline made me want to get into the scene. Those soaring leads in Overdrive and Electric Groove are burned in my mind forever.
I find this album an amazing showcase of various 80's and 80's-inspired sounds (say, Pedal To The Metal has some Justice-like feeling, but it's still a part of the legacy). The best thing about it is having variety and coherence at the same time, and I'm yet to hear any synth album that can rival Redline in this regard. Favorite tracks? Redline gives an amazing feeling of adrenaline rush and - somehow - slowly boiling anger.
Once again, the lead in Overdrive is probably the coolest lead synth line I've ever heard. I'm not a big fan of darksynth, so Skull and Shark was kinda lost on me, save for a couple of tracks, and Visitors and Dreamrider didn't seem to have the same edge Redline did. Anyway, making synthwave is an important part of my life, and Redline made this possible. I guess, I owe this album a lot. Overdrive is the song that defines Outrun for me: It has a catchy melody that sucks you in and a driving beat that keeps pushing you, then there is that kinda chorus that keeps the track interesting an finaly the solo that makes you bite your lips like 'Ohhh YEAAH!'
Other than that it's hard to rank the rest of the album; I guess Electric Groove and the rather chill Space Trash take a special place. The album is strong as a whole and is a testament to Laszerhawk's diversity and creativity. I don't really know who's behind Lazerhawk but they must've already been a very experienced musician at the time the album was made. You rarely see so many totally different tracks with that consistent level of quality on one album. This exeptional diversity also shows in Lazerhawk's discography: No album is like the other, every one can be categorized into a different sub-grenre: Skull and Shark - darksynth, Visitors - spacewave (did I just make that genre up? Maybe?), Dreamrider - chillwave; all being strong entries in their respective genre. You often see artists rely on signature styles, not Lazerhawk though!
If you want to know a bit more: Lazerhawk is Garrett Hays, a founding member of Rosso Corsa and one of the most famous synthwave producers. He started releasing music geared towards the synthwave genre in myspace, in the late 2000s. His outrun electro is robot pop mixed with dark synths and the occasional lyric, a reminiscence of everything that was good in the 80s: Synthesizer jams with gargantuan leads, hard toms, spaced-out melody and the pains of being pure at heart. So these music threads are great. I hadn't listened to this album fully until earlier in the week since I'm fairly new and there is a lot to start with. I am so stoked I didn't go too long without knowing this album. For me there are some tracks that stand out a lot more than others. I really love Dream Machine, Pedal to the Metal and Interstellar.
Also Redline.and Space Trash For me it was a bit of a surprise to see the album was released in 2010 since it sounds pretty modern to me however as a new guy I think my perception on the history of Synthwave and what it sounds like wont be up to scratch. I have only had a chance to listen to Skull and Shark other than Redline and I think there seems to be a bit of a difference. To me Redline seemed far more outrun. Skull and Shark seemed a bit darker though I still really enjoyed it.
