The Nunchuck is used to move the current player, while the Wii Remote is used to pick out players to send them on runs or to receive passes via simple click and drag system which uses arrows to show the path of the run, and a press of the 'B' button to complete the move. I love football games. I mean, I love sports games in general - basketball, tennis, American football, a bit of everything. But football I love football games. I mean, I love sports games in general - basketball, tennis, American football, a bit of everything.
But football games have a special place in my gaming heart. I've played countless editions of FIFA and PES across consoles as diverse as Megadrive (Sega Genesis), Amiga, PC, PSOne, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox360, and now. The best football game ever made, without a doubt, PES2008 on Wii. Even if you hate football, if you own a Wii, buy this game to see just how innovative, creative and compelling the Wii controls can be. I hope and pray that other sports games follow suit.

They are deceivingly simple at first but very deep after playing the game for more than a few hours. You are able to control more than just one man at a time.
Strategy is focused on bigtime in this game. I don't typically like Soccer games but this is a game that transcends its genre. This is one of the best football games I have ever played.

Your able to make crisp passes. You almost always know who you are passing to. The controls are completely revolutionary, and easy to learn. The only down side is that PES failed to get licenses for all the national teams and all the European Leagues. So some players and teams have incorrect names. The lack of a Master's League is disappointing, but the Champion's Road mode more than makes up for it. This is a must buy for any football/soccer fan.

The most significant problems are: 1) The fact that you can't defend consistently or with any great control. They could have easily made it that you can manually control a player on defence, and use a button to call others to help like in Pro Evo on PS2. 2) The camera view looks like you're watching from space, it's so far away, meaning it's hard to see what's going on. And you can't even zoom in or change the camera like you could ad nauseum in previous iterations.

3) Shooting is done by shaking the nunchuck, which is hardly intuitive and means you can't make quick decisions to snap a shot in a goalbox melee because it takes too long. It would be easier just to push a button.
Also, you have no control over where the shot is going and how hard. 4) Thinking about clicking on players and putting them in space all takes up time that will invariably end in your player being dispossessed of the ball. 5) Maybe my connection sucks but online play is lagtastic and therefore useless. Don't believe the hype.
