  1. How To Read Sig Sauer Serial Numbers

From what ive read the U code serial numbers that were produced in. Other than the serial number and 'Sig Sauer sigarms inc. For a P226 and have. P 226 sig sauer serial number lookup, sig gsr 02 serial numbers, sig p226 serial number lookup, sig sauer 1911 serial number search, sig sauer p220 elite serial number. Jul 07, 2007 sig p226 date codes, sig sauer date code, sig sauer date codes, sig sauer p230 serial numbers, sig sauer serial lookup, sig sauer serial number.

Sig skipped the I for whatever reason, so the Sig date codes are: A = 0 B = 1 C = 2 D = 3 E = 4 F = 5 G = 6 H = 7 J = 8 K = 9 For the OP, the date code is found on the slide, on the bottom under where the guide rod goes, just in front of where the dust cover of the frame ends. There are usually some proof marks there as well.

What Blennidae said is correct. However, if it's a new production Sig, it wont have that date code. They stopped IIRC in the mid-90's with putting date codes on the pistols.

First off, lack of ANY paperwork or box, makes me believe it's not new production. It may be unfired old stock, or someone bought it, never fired it, lost the paperwork, and sold it to pawn. I would ask them if you could field strip and inspect the slide rails and barrel, since there's no documentation about the age of the pistol. Some things to check for: External condition?

Is there a lot of wear on the slide and frame? How much finish is still on the slide rails?

If there is a lot of bare metal showing, it's probably been fired a lot. External Barrel Condition? The Sig 'smilies' are going to be on every Sig, even fresh from the factory because they test fire them there. A never fired (outside of the factory.) pistol will have almost all of the finish on the barrel still. Out of curiosity, how much are they asking for the pistol? He's asking $499 for it.

I did notice, and forgot to post, that the pistol grip does not have 'flathead' screws securing it.they appeared to be hex screws. I thought all sigs had flathead screws? Is that incorrect? Not all sigs, I know the newer 229 comes with a torx head screw. I am not sure about the 226 though. Like the others have suggested ask to field strip it down and look for any wear. If he wont allow you to do that look for the 'smiley' wear marks on the barrel.

The hex screws are either houge grip screws (complete crap) or TJ's hex. The reason i saw houge's grip screws are crap because i have had a set on my 229 that started rusting, my TJ's have yet to rust. Not all sigs, I know the newer 229 comes with a torx head screw. Going to try and go in after work to strip it down and go over it. Thanks for the info on the hex screws.
